Under cold environments vinyl can become harder and more brittle for cutting, it may require adjustment on cutting depth and make application difficult, because the initial adhesion of the vinyl may reduce and takes longer for the adhesive to cure properly.
The recommended temperature for applying vinyl using a ‘dry application method’ is at least 10°C and for a ‘wet application method’ is at least 17°C, temperature below 10°C is not recommended.
When vinyl graphics is applied to a vehicle in cold condition, we recommend to work indoors, and use a fan heater inside with the vehicle doors open to raise the temperature.
If this is not possible, with exterior application in winter, it’s vital to ensure that the adhesive has firmly bonded to the substrate. The temperature range outlined in the TDS for each vinyl type is the recommended temperature when in use.
